England won ICC World Cup 2019

In the grand finale of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, England Cricket team defeated New Zealand Cricket Team in the Super over thriller to lift their maiden World Cup title at the Lord’s cricket stadium in London.

Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand had posted 241/8 in 50 overs in reply to which, England ended at the same score leading to the one-over eliminator at the Lord's. In the Super Over, England batted first, and the duo of Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler made 15 runs, and New Zealand also ended at the same score but for the loss of one wicket, paving the way for an English victory on boundary count.
It was nothing less than sheer magic as the match kept tilting in the favour of England and New Zealand throughout the final overs, but eventually it was England whose 44-year-long longing ended on a Super Over, that too, on boundary count as England had 22 fours and two sixes compared to 16 by New Zealand.

Earlier, Ben Stokes was England's last hope in taking the team home as England needed 15 runs in the last over, Stokes played two dots and then smoked Boult over deep mid-wicket for six, then got a lucky overthrow while running a double that fetched them six runs --- that was the biggest highlight and that paved that way for England to reach the magic number. Kane Williamson won Man of the tournament award, Rohit Sharma won the golden bat and Mitchell Starc won the Golden ball in the tournament.

F1 2019: Lewis Hamilton wins British Grand Prix

Once again, a huge crowd turned out for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and once again, they were treated to a thriller. Pole-sitter Valtteri Bottas looked to have done everything right as he led from the front and fought off teammate Lewis Hamilton, but a safety car intervention gifted his Mercedes teammate a free pit stop, allowing him to leapfrog the Finn and ultimately a record sixth home win.

Behind the Silver Arrows, there was wheel-to-wheel action galore, as the Ferraris and Red Bulls, engaged in a tense battle for third. It was eventually won by Charles Leclerc, but only after Max Verstappen had been dramatically punted out of the position by the other Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel.
Bottas led away from pole position and held off a spirited attack from Hamilton in the early laps, before the Briton wriggled through at Luffield to the delight of a packed house at Silverstone. But Bottas wasn’t having any of it, tucking into the slipstream before catapulting his Mercedes up to the inside at Copse to retake the lead in sensational fashion.

Championship leader Hamilton dived into the pits, as did Vettel, and re-joined in the lead before taking the chequered flag for his seventh victory in 10 races in 2019, with Bottas finishing second. Hamilton hammered home his pace with the fastest lap on the final lap of the Grand Prix, on 30-lap old tires, usurping Bottas, who pitted late on for fresh rubber.

Red Bull had to settle for fourth and fifth with Pierre Gasly and a recovering Verstappen, while Carlos Sainz, who like Hamilton had a free stop when he pitted under the Safety Car, took sixth, ahead of Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen. Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat was ninth with Nico Hulkenberg snatching the final point from Alexander Albon on the final lap.

Copa America 2019: Brazil beat Peru 3-1 to lift title

Brazil have defeated Peru 3-1 to win their first Copa America title since 2007. Everton led the team to victory, scoring a goal and setting up another to give Brazil their ninth Copa América trophy, and fifth at home. Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison also scored a goal each for Brazil, who have won the title every time they hosted the tournament.
Everton was named player of the final and also finished as one of the tournament's top scorers with three goals. Brazil's veteran right-back Dani Alves was player of the tournament. Brazil won despite playing with 10 men from the 70th minute because Jesus was sent off with a second yellow card.
Peru scored through Paolo Guerrero but could not pull off one last upset after eliminating Uruguay in the quarterfinals and two-time defending champion Chile in the semifinals. Peru, who have been routed 5-0 by Brazil in the group stage and barely escaped early elimination, were trying to win their first Copa América trophy in 44 years. They had not made it to the final since they won their second South American title in 1975.
Brazil had not made it past the quarterfinals of the Copa América since beating Argentina 3-0 in the 2007 final in Venezuela. They did not even get past the group stage in 2016. The last time they won the Copa América at home was in 1989 when Romário scored the winner against Uruguay at the Maracanã. Brazil's only other title since 2007 came in the 2013 Confederations Cup, also at home.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019: US win it for the fourth time

When a World Cup novice is faced with a foe as experienced and ruthless as USWNT, the outcome is almost inevitable and so it was a muggy afternoon in Lyon when the reigning world champion defended its title with a comfortable 2-0 win over the Netherlands.

Competing in its first World Cup final, few gave the Dutch hope. The reigning European champion it may be, but it had not yet come up against the best team in the world, the dominant force of its generation.
The Netherlands held on for over an hour but two goals within eight minutes sealed the underdog's fate. In a tournament where she has transcended her sport, Megan Rapinoe coolly drilled home a penalty before a Rose Lavelle thunderbolt made sure of a second successive title for the US.

This is the World Cup where it became apparent that the USWNT is being rapidly pursued by those European countries whose men's national teams have long since been a force. Leading the chase is the Netherlands, European champion and a finalist in just its second World Cup, which is part of a pack, but all challengers have been vanquished. Thailand, Chile, Sweden, Spain, France, England and now the Netherlands have all swept aside by a team which is now unbeaten in 17 World Cup matches.

German MotoGP 2019: Marc Marquez wins

Marc Marquez completes a decade of dominance at the Sachsenring after cruising to a 4.5 second victory at the 2019 HJC Helmets Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland; the reigning Champion makes it 10 wins in a row in Germany to beat Maverick Vinales and Cal Crutchlow.

Marquez was sluggish off the line and it looked like he would get swallowed up heading into Turn 1 but the number 93 was last of the late brakers to dive back into the lead. Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) slipped back from second to sixth at the start as Vinales, Jack Miller (Pramac Racing), Rins and Crutchlow all got past the Frenchman. And then, Quartararo race ended at Turn 3. The rookie went to get back past Ducati Team’s Danilo Petrucci on Lap 2 but the front of his Yamaha washed away from him as the 20-year-old crashed out of a race for the first time this season.
Marquez was in the groove as the seven-time Champion showed exactly why the Sachsenring is his playground. The Repsol Honda man wasn’t powering away at a rapid rate, but a tenth a lap on Laps 8 and 9 saw his lead go up to 1.5, but then the hammer was well and truly down. Lap 10 saw Marquez go 0.4 faster than Rins as the gap rose above the two-second barrier and from then on, there was no stopping the nine-time Sachsenring winner.

The battle for the second and third steps on the podium was on though. Crutchlow was shadowing Vinales who in turn was sitting a second back from Rins, with the gap remaining constant between the trio as we passed the mid-stage of the race. At this point, the battle for fifth place was also hotting up as Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso and Petrucci were going head-to-head with fellow GP19 rider Miller, Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) and Aprilia Racing Team Gresini Aleix Espargaro.

Dutch MotoGP 2019: Maverick Vinales wins

Maverick Vinales scored his and Yamaha’s first win of 2019 after emerging victorious in a thrilling three-way fight with Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo in the MotoGP Dutch. It was a Suzuki one-two after the start, with Alex Rins leading his rookie team-mate Joan Mir, but the team's strong run quickly ended when Rins suffered a crash at Turn 9 on the third lap.

Soon after, Mir made a mistake and Quartararo moved into the lead with Vinales and Honda rider Marquez in the top three. With Vinales running wide, Marquez was up to second and he put constant pressure on Quartararo. The Petronas SRT rider was visibly struggling with his Yamaha, his bike shaking several times on the straights, and Marquez was eventually able to move around him at Turn 6.

Fourth place was hotly contested between Ducati duo Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci as well as Mir, with the former taking the position in the end. SRT Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli completed the top five after passing Petrucci on the final lap.

Mir lost time during the last couple of laps and also dropped behind LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow, settling for eighth. Pramac Ducati's Jack Miller was ninth, while Andrea Iannone took his first top 10 finish on the Aprilia. Pol Espargaro was the top KTM in 11th as Johann Zarco, who was running 10th early on, retired in the pits.

F1 2019: Max Verstappen wins Austria Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc came agonizingly close to becoming an F1 race-winner in Bahrain and he was denied that honor again at the Austrian Grand Prix after being overtaken two laps from the end by a brilliant Max Verstappen who closed out his second win in two years at the Red Bull Ring.

Valtteri Bottas finished third on the road for Mercedes, while a late overtake on Lewis Hamilton saw Sebastian Vettel finish fourth after making a two-stop strategy work, with Hamilton coming home in fifth, the first time he’s finished outside the top two this year.

Behind Hamilton, Lando Norris was a fantastic sixth for McLaren, holding off the Red Bull of Pierre Gasly, while Carlos Sainz, having started at the back of the grid, was eighth, ahead of the two Alfa Romeos of Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, the Italian scoring his first ever F1 point.

After back-to-back races in France and Austria, F1 returns at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 12-14. Sebastian Vettel won there last year for Ferrari – and having once again come so close to victory, how dearly the Scuderia would love to repeat that Silverstone win there in 2019.
