Tadej Pogacar wins Tour De France 2020

Tadej Pogacar became the first Slovenian to win the Tour de France as the famous three-week race ended on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. Pogacar, who celebrates his 22nd birthday on Monday, is the youngest winner since 1904, sealing his triumph with a sensational performance in the mountain time trial on the penultimate stage.

Until then it had looked as if his compatriot and long-time leader Primoz Roglic would claim the yellow jersey, but in a remarkable reversal it was Pogacar who won the stage and took the race lead by 59 seconds. Sunday's 21st stage is by tradition a processional affair, with no attempts at breakaways until the concluding eight circuits around the French capital commence.

Pogacar stayed safely on his bike to cross the line in triumph with his UAE Team Emirates teammates as the stage was brilliantly won by green jersey winner Sam Bennett of Ireland, his second stage win of the 2020 Tour. Bennett usurped Slovakia's Peter Sagan, a seven-time winner, to top the points classification and did so in some style, relegating world champion Mads Pedersen to second place on the stage, with Sagan in third. 

Roglic, who had led since the ninth stage with his powerful Jumbo-Visma team in support, had to settle for second overall, with Australian veteran Richie Porte (Trek-Segafredo) taking the final place on the podium. Pogacar has found his unexpected triumph hard to take in, recovering from losing over a minute in crosswinds on the seventh stage to claw his way back into contention and ultimately claim yellow. Geraint Thomas wins Tour de France 2018

Pausing at times along the way for a swig of Champagne, Geraint Thomas rode triumphantly, completing the final stage of the Tour de France and becoming the first Welshman to win the famed race. After years of being a supportive teammate to other Team Sky riders, like four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome, Thomas’s turn to win his first Tour de France arrived at the age of 32.

Thomas and the peloton completed the arduous, three-week race with a largely ceremonial 72-mile ride on the Champs Elysees. Thomas beat Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands by 1:51. Thomas’s Team Sky teammate, Froome, was third, 2:24 behind Thomas, who joins Froome (2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017) and Bradley Wiggins (2012) as the only British men to win the race. Six of the last seven Tours have been won by British riders.

Thomas has been known for grit and determination that surpasses what is the norm for cyclists. He rode in the 2013 Tour with a broken pelvis, saying it was “the worst pain I’ve ever experienced on a bike.” In 2005, he suffered a ruptured spleen when he was struck by a piece of metal during a ride in Australia. He has never finished better than 15th in a grand tour, partly because he has usually played a supportive role to his teammates.

Peter Sagan won the Green Jersey, the sprinter Jersey with 477 points. Julian Alaphilippe won the White with Red Polka dots Jersey, King of the mountains Jersey. Pierre Roger Latour won the White Jersey, the fastest overall rider under the age of 25. Best team Jersey was awarded to Movistar Team. Daniel Martin from UAE Team Emirates won the Super Combative Jersey.

2015 Tour de France

The 2015 Tour de France was the 102^nd edition of the Tour de France, one of cycling’s three Grand Tours. The 3360.3 km long race started in Utrecht, the Netherlands on July 4, 2015 and concluded with the Champs Elysees stage in Paris on 26 July. A total of 198 riders from 22 teams entered the 21-stage race, which was won by Chris Froome of Team Sky. The second and third places were taken by Movistar Team Riders Nairo Quintana and Alejandro Valverde.

Froome became the first Briton to win the Tour de France twice, after his 2013 victory. He also won the mountains classification. Peter Sagan of Tinkoff Saxo won the points classification. The young rider classification was won by Quintana. Movistar Team finished as the winners of the team classification. However, Chris Froome won only one stage out of 21 but won the title with 72 seconds margin. Team Sky holds second position in Team Classification list.

Yellow jersey of General classification is won by Chris Froome. Green Jersey of Points Classification is won by Peter Sagan. White Jersey with Red Polka dots of Mountains Classification is won by Chris Froome. White Jersey of Young rider classification is won by Nairo Quintana. Team Classification jersey was awarded to Movistar Team and Combativity award was awarded to Romain Bardet.

The 2016 Tour de France will be 103^rd edition of the Tour de France. It will start in French department of Manche for the first time in the history of the Tour de France. The race is also scheduled to have a stage finish in Andorra.
