Shanghai Masters 2015

The Shanghai Masters is a professional men’s tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts, and held annually in early October at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in the Minhang district of Shanghai, People Republic of China. The Shanghai Masters is eighth out of the nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments on the Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour Season and is the only one not played in Europe or North America.
Matches in Singles and Doubles main draws are played over eight days, from one Sunday to the next. The Singles main draw features 56 different players including 44 or 45 direct acceptances, 7 qualifiers, 4 wild cards and 1 eventual special exempt. The Singles qualifying draw features 28 different players with 24 direct acceptances and 4 wild cards. The doubles draw, features 24 different teams including 22 direct acceptances and 2 wild cards.

World Number One Novak Djokovic became the first ever player to win five Masters 1000 titles in two different years. In one sided Shanghai Masters final he defeated Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in one hour 19 minutes. This year, Djokovic has so far won five 1000 Masters Titles in seven finals – Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Rome. He was the finalist at Montreal and Cincinnati.

In 2011 he won titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Montreal, Madrid, and Rome. No other player has won five Masters 1000 titles two times. Other players to win five Masters Titles are US Legend Jimmy Conners in 1976 and Spaniard Rafael Nadal in 2013. His total of 25 Masters 1000 is second highest in Open Era Behind, Nadal who has won it 27 times. With Paris Masters left in the season, the record breaking Serbian can hope to create another record. The doubles Shanghai Masters is won by Raven Klaasen and Marcelo Melo.
