US Open 2016

Stan Wawrinka’s US Open triumph over world number one Novak Djokovic gave him a third Grand Slam title in as many finals. Wawrinka did shaking off the loss of the first set to post a 6-7 (1/7), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 victory over 12 times Grand Slam Champion Djokovic. He denied Djokovic a second straight US Open Title, and for the third time beat a reigning number one in a major final.

Wawrinka had already been pushed to the limit in reaching the final. Wawrinka has now won all three Grand Slam finals he has played and his last 11 finals in a row, and has become the oldest male winner of the US Open since 35 years old Ken Rosewall in 1970. Djokovic, 29, was the defending champion and trying to win his third Grand Slam title of 2016 and 13^th of his career.

Angelique Kerber won the Women’s singles title of US Open 2016. This was Kerber second Grand Slam title win of this year after Australian Open 2016. She also reached this year’s Wimbledon Final, where she lost to Williams, and she also secured a silver medal in Singles at the Summer Olympics in Rio.

Men’s Double section is won by James Murray and B. Soares. Women’s double section is won by B. Mattek and L. Safarova. Mixed double title is won by L. Siegemund and M. Pavic. It was the 136^th edition of the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. 

French Open 2016

Serbia Novak Djokovic defeated Britain’s Andy Murray in the final of the French Open at Roland Garros to win his 13^th Grand Slam. With this victory, Djokovic won his maiden Roland Garros crown and also completed his career Grand Slam dream.

Coming from a set down, the Serb won back to back three sets to oust Murray from the title hunt. He won 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, and 6-4. The world number one etched his name in the history books by becoming the first man since 1969 to hold all four grand slams concurrently. After a rather sluggish start, Djokovic came back with all guns blazing, only to destroy Murray hopes of becoming the first player from Britain to win the French Open since 1935.

A lot was stake at Murray, who has not only gunning for glory but also looking to shut down his critics. On the contrary, for Djokovic, the French Open was the only silverware missing from his trophy cabinet and the weather gods made it even more difficult for him to his hands on it. Djokovic battled the weather and an adamant opponent, to make his way to the summit. Earlier, 22 year old sensation Garbine Muguruza had stunned Serena Williams to win the crown in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in women’s singles.

Men’s doubles title is won by F. Lopez and M. Lopez, who stunned Bryan brothers in finals by 4-6, 7-6, and 3-6. Women doubles title is won by C. Garcia and K. Mladenovic by 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Mixed double is won by M. Hingis and L. Paes who beat S. Mirza and I. Dodig in finals by 4-6, 6-4, and 10-8. Next Grand Slam event will be Wimbledon which will start from 27 June 2016 in Wimbledon.

Results: Wimbledon 2015

The Third Tennis Grand Slam of the year 2015 is over. It was the 129^th edition of the championships. Novak Djokovic of Serbia won his third Wimbledon title in men’s singles, defending his championship from 2014. Serena Williams won her sixth Wimbledon and 21^st major title. She also became the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam title in the Open Era.

Federer, 33, had hoped to become the first man to win Wimbledon eight times. The Swiss won a thrilling second tie-break but Djokovic came through to win in two hours and 56 minutes. Djokovic adds a third victory at All England Club to one US Open and five Australian Open titles, and the Serb has now won 48 matches and lost just three in 2015. The world number one most recent defeat came against Stan Wawrinka in last month French Open Final.

In Ladies doubles final, Martina Hingis and Indian Sania Mirza won the title. In Mixed Doubles Final, Martina Hingis and Timea Babos won the final. In Rankings, Novak Djokovic stands at first place followed by Roger Federer. Andy Murray is at third place. Rafael Nadal dropped to 10^th place after losing in second round.

In Women Singles, Serena Williams is at first place followed by Petra Kvitova. Simona Halep is at third place followed by Maria Sharapova. In Gentlemen doubles, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan are at first place. In Ladies Doubles, Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza climbed to first place for the first time. In Mixed Doubles, Bruno Soares and Sania Mirza are at second place. In Boys Doubles, Indian Sumit Nagal and Ly Hoang Nam won the title. The next tennis tournament will be US Open, which will take place in New York from 31 August to 13 September. 

Wimbledon 2015: Players to watch out

The 2015 Wimbledon Championships is a tennis tournament which will take place at the all England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom, from 29 July to 12 July 2015. This will be the 129^th edition of the championships and third grand slam of the year. It is played on Grass courts. Novak Djokovic of Serbia is the defending champion in men’s singles and Petra Kvitova is the defending champion in women’s singles.

Players to watch out in Wimbledon 2015 Men’s edition are Novak Djokovic, Stanislas Wawrinka, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Kei Nishikori. Novak and Wawrinka had already won one grand slam this year. Novak lost in French Open 2015 final by Wawrinka but still he is the most challenging contender for Wimbledon 2015.

In Women’s singles edition, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Lucie Safarova, and Ana Ivanovic.  Serena Williams had already won two grand slams this year. In continuation she had won three grand slams including US Open 2014 Final. If Serena Williams won Wimbledon 2015 then it will be four in a row for her, which will be a world record in Tennis.

Prize money for winners in singles category is 1,880,000 pound. Tournament will end on 12^th July till then stay tuned for the result of Wimbledon 2015. 

French Open 2015

French Open is a tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 114^th edition of the French Open and second grand slam event of the year. It consisted of events for professional players in singles, doubles, mixed doubles, juniors and wheelchair players. Rafael Nadal was the nine time defending champion in Men’s singles and Maria Sharapova in the Women Singles.

Stan Wawrinka won his first French Open title defeating Number one Novak Djokovic in the final by 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and 6-4. Serena Williams won her 3^rd French Open title and 20^th Grand Slam Singles title beating Safarova in the final. She defeated Safarova by 6-3, 6-7(2/7), and 6-2. This was Wawrinka second major winning title after Australian Open 2014. He also ended Novak 28 match winning streak.

Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo won the Men’s doubles title defeating Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the final. In Women Doubles Bethanie and Safarova defeated Casey and Shvedova in the final. Mixed Double is won by Bethanie and Mike Bryan. Stan Wawrinka defeated Roger Federer in the quarterfinals and Jw.Tsonga in the Semi-Finals to reach finals of French Open. On the other end, Novak defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals and Andy Murray in Semi-Finals.

In Women Singles, Serena defeated S.Errani in quarterfinals and T. Bacsinszky in Semi-Finals to reach final. Lucie Safarova defeated G. Muguruza in quarterfinals and A. Ivanovic in Semi-Finals to reach final of the tournament. The next tennis major tournament Wimbledon will start from 29 June 2015 and last till 12 July 2015. With stunning performances in Men’s section, competition is tougher for other players to win their title. Last year Novak Djokovic won Men’s singles and Petra Kvitova won Women singles title.
