Atletico Madrid won UEFA Super Cup 2018

Atletico Madrid finally got the better of Real Madrid on the European stage, scoring twice in extra time to win 4-2 in the UEFA Super Cup final in its rival game without Cristiano Ronaldo.

Atletico got off to a flying start with Diego Costa scoring the competition's fastest goal just 50 seconds in, but Madrid came back to take a 2-1 lead as Los Blancos tried to prove they can still win trophies without Ronaldo and with a new coach. But Costa equalized late in the match with his second goal before Saul Niguez and Jorge "Koke" resurrection sealed the victory in extra time on a cool night in Estonia's capital.

Atletico victory was over its crosstown rival had added significance after they lost two Champions League finals to Madrid in 2014 and 2016. Diego Simeone team was also eliminated by Madrid in the 2017 semi-finals. The loss leaves new Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui still having to prove that there is life after Ronaldo, who scored 450 goals in 438 matches before joining Juventus this summer and helped lead the club to three straight Champions League titles.

Gareth Bale showed glimpses of his pace and skill, but couldn't mimic Ronaldo's ability to decide a game on his own. Instead, Costa was the one who dominated at the Lillekula Stadium in Tallinn. He overpowered Madrid's centre-backs in the first minute after a long ball from Stefan Savic, first winning a header against Sergio Ramos and then muscling past Raphael Varane to cut into the area where he beat goalkeeper Keylor Navas at the near post.

Karim Benzema equalized in the 27th minute, heading in a pinpoint cross from Bale, who was able to break away from Lucas Hernandez on the right and curl the ball into his fellow forward's path. Sergio Ramos scored a penalty in the 63rd minute after Juanfran Torres handled in the area as the ball flew over him from a corner.

Real Madrid wins UEFA Champions League 2018

It was an epic night, filled with so many different storylines and for Liverpool goalkeeper, Loris Karius, his part in the story will be remembered just as long as Gareth Bale’s incredible bicycle kick or the sight of Salah’s tears.

Bale’s overhead volley, only two minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute, will go straight into the list of greatest all-time goals in a Champions League final and put Madrid on their way to emulating the great Ajax and Bayern Munich of the 1970s by winning this trophy three years in a row.

That, however, tells only part of the narrative from a night when the harsh reality for Liverpool is that Karius was a danger to his own team. His mistake for Karim Benzema to open the scoring was bad enough but the error that led to Bale’s second goal was possibly even worse. Liverpool had started so fearlessly. They were quick to the ball, strong in the challenge and utterly determined to play the game at their pace.

Real hasn't lost a Champions League final since 1981, and they become the first team to win three in a row since Bayern Munich in the mid-70s. Liverpool loses the final, loses Salah to injury finishes the season empty handed with one of their own suffering one of the cruelest fates in the sports, carrying guilt he may have a hard time letting go of for some time.

Real Madrid won FIFA Club World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo smashed a hat-trick as Real Madrid survived a colossal scare to beat Japan’s Kashima Antlers 4-2 and lift the Club World Cup. A Gaku Shibasaki double briefly threatened one of football’s greatest shocks after Karim Benzema had given Real Madrid an early lead in Yokohama. But Ronaldo equalized from the penalty spot before pouncing twice in extra time to give the Spanish giants their second world title in three years and fifth in total.

The victory extended Real Madrid club record unbeaten run to 37 matches in all competitions, while French coach Zinedine Zidane surpassed Fabio Capello’s record for their best start to a season. But the European champions, yet to be defeated in 26 games this campaign, were forced to dig deep by an Antlers side who finished a distant third over the J-League season, before winning the championship final.

Benzema’s toe-poked opener was cancelled out on the stroke of halftime by Shibasaki, who took advantage of some calamitous defending from Raphael Varane to lash in a sharp volley. The Japan midfielder then sparked wild celebrations among a crowd of 68,000 seven minutes after the break when he smashed home a left-foot shot from long distance. Kashima’s lead was short-lived, however, as Ronaldo leveled from the spot after Lucas Vazquez was bundled over by Shuto Yamamoto.

Ronaldo, who scooped his fourth Ballon d’Or last week, put Real Madrid back in front with a clinical low finish eight minutes into extra time after a deft pass from Benzema. And the Portuguese superstar completed his hat-trick -- the first in a Club World Cup final -- six minutes later with another poacher’s strike to break Japanese hearts.

Real Madrid won UEFA Super Cup 2016

The 2016 UEFA Super Cup was the 41^st edition of the UEFA Super Cup, an annual Football match organized by UEFA and contested by the reigning champions of the two main European Club competitions, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The match featured Real Madrid, the winners of the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League and Sevilla, the winners of the 2015-16 UEFA Europa League.

It was played at the Lerkendal Stadion in Norway. Real Madrid won the match 3-2 after extra time. In the 21^st minute Marco Asensio scored the opening goal for Real Madrid with a strike from the 25 yards out which flew into the top left corner of the net. Franco got the equalizer in the 41^st minute when he scored with a low left foot shot from just inside the penalty area.

Sevilla were awarded a penalty in the 72^nd minute when Sergio Ramos was adjudged to have fouled Vitolo by flicking back his leg inside the penalty area. Yevhen scored from the resulting penalty with a low shot to his left sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. In the 93^rd minute Sergio Ramos scored with a free header from two yards out after a cross from Lucas.

In the 119^th minute Dani Carvajal got into the penalty box after a long run down the right and scored when he lifted the ball with the outside of his right foot over the goalkeeper. This was the third time Sevilla lost in UEFA Super Cup final. In 2014 they lost by Real Madrid and in 2015 by Barcelona. This was the third time Real Madrid has won UEFA Super Cup. 

Real Madrid won UEFA Champions League 2016

Real Madrid handed Atletico Madrid another cruel Champions League Final defeat when Cristiano Ronaldo spot kick saw them beat their neighbors on penalties to win Europe top club trophy for a record 11^th time.

The match ended 1-1 after extra time as Atletico, giving their usual never say die performance, conceded an early goal, missed a penalty, clung on by the skin of their teeth and then found the strength to equalize at the San Siro. But it was all in vain as Juanfran struck their fourth penalty against the post, allowing a previously subdued Ronaldo to stride up and coolly blast home the decisive penalty for a 5-3 shootout win his third European cup success.

Real former playmaker Zinedine Zidane was left to celebrate winning Europe elite club competition five months after starting his first coaching job and become the seventh man to claim the trophy both as a player and a manager. But it was another demoralizing end for Diego Simeone Atletico who was within a minute of winning the 1974 European Cup Final and 2014 Champions League finals but conceded equalizers and eventually lost them both.

The latter was also against Real Madrid when Sergio Ramos scored in stoppage time to set his side up for a 4-1 extra-time win. This time, Ramos gave Real a 15^th minute lead but after Antoine missed a penalty for Atletico at the start of the second half, the Mattress makers hit back with a superbly taken equalizer by substitute Carrasco. Cristiano Ronaldo has finished as the UEFA Champions League top marksman for the fourth season running, notching 16 goals and the Portuguese star is closing in on a century in Europe premier club competition.

International Champions Cup

International Champions Cup is an annual club association football friendly exhibition competition. It is the first to be played separately in Australia, China and United States. The Australian edition of the tournament featured three teams played across three matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Real Madrid was the first club to announce their involvement.

Manchester city and Roma were later confirmed to take part in the Australian Tournament. The Chinese edition of the tournament had featured Real Madrid, Milan and Inter Milan playing a total of three matches in different cities. The North American edition of the tournament had featured 10 teams but some games will be played in Mexico, Canada, Italy and England.

Each team involved in the US edition will play four games, except the three United States based teams that will only play two games. 2014 International Champions Cup winners Manchester United were the first team to confirm their involvement in US Edition. The Australian Edition of 2015 is won by Real Madrid which is their second title.

The China Edition of ICC is won by Real Madrid which is their third title. Paris Saint Germain won the US Edition of ICC which is their first title. One match during the 2014 tournament set all time record for attendance at a soccer game in the United States. The new record of 109,318 spectators was set at the match between Manchester United and Real Madrid in University of Michigan Stadium.
